Noel Gallagher: this I what I do on my own, and it’s bloody good

I’ve said it many times before: when you hear a solo record from a member of a successful band, you could get a very good idea of how much (and how good) his addition to its sound was. Oasis brought excitement back to brit-rock, and in an extraordinary way. They sold millions of records, they toured the world -they earned legendary status. But the Gallagher brothers had their issues. Marketing oriented or not, their fights caused the separation of the act that had put them together. While Liam formed a new band called Beady Eye, Noel went solo. And his effort, Noel Gallagher’s High flying birds (2011), is quite a surprise. This a baroque, detail-oriented, sophisticated and well-crafted record. And its songs are just great. It’s true: it may still sounds like Oasis, but in the best way possible. What I enjoyed the most about this album is the sense of freedom and confidence that Noel showed off on his tunes. This is a brilliant work made by an accomplished songwriter doing things his way.
