SOHN: voice as an enthralling instrument
As soon as I heard SOHN's highly textured voice, I was totally seduced by his sound. Tremors, his debut album, is an outstanding work that brings his unique voice upfront, supported by a myriad of ethereal synths, old-school drum machines and futuristic noises. This music contains a fascinating paradox: the lyrics are filled with nostalgic scenes while the arrangements come off as a decisively avant-garde endeavor. SOHN's magnificent voice and his proficient way of handling it as a rich sonic palette is what makes this album so compelling. Tremors sounds like melancholy scored for an imaginary sci-fi film. Curiously enough, this is what makes it profoundly human.
