Lykke Li: a desperate chant to mend a broken heart

Lykke Li is one of the most gifted and interesting female singers nowadays. Her approach to songwriting and the handling of her vocal textures imbue her songs with a very particular stamp. Her latest record, I never learn (2014), is an outstanding piece of music. The album tells in an endearing way the story of a broken heart –and its writer’s urgent need to heal it. Listening to this music is quite an intense yet rewarding experience. One can almost feel as if Lykke Li were writing and singing these anguished tunes in front of you. These songs will grab you, tear you apart and above all make you feel alive, which is absolutely one of the greatest triumphs any work of art can pull off. I never learn is without a doubt one of the best albums I have listened to this year.
