Depeche Mode: this universe sounds dark

A friend of mine told me that you needed some time to digest a record of Depeche Mode when you start to listen to it. I have to say that my friend was right: it took me a while to dig Depeche Mode's latest record, but this is exactly what happens with great records. Once you are into them, there is no turning back. That's been said, Sounds of the universe (2009) is a great record. Depeche Mode are authentic experts at creating atmospheres. The hypnotic voice of Dave Gahan attracts you to the mood of the song he's singing and you can't do but to follow him to his emotional journey. Because Depeche Mode, first and foremost, is a band that deals with intense and obscure emotions. This is how our inner universes sounds like.
