Son Lux: when audacity pays off
The convergence between contemporary music and
rock is producing great material. It seems as if the distance between those
genres were fading thanks to the efforts of talented musicians that are daring
to step out of their comfort zones for the sake of making beautiful music. Son
Lux, the name of Ryan Lott’s magnificent musical project, works as a solid
testament to that will of pushing music forward.. Lanterns (2013) comes off as music that incorporates the
songwriting’s structure from rock, some textural sensibilities from the orchestra
and the ethereality of electronics. This is one of the boldest musical
statements I’ve listened to in the past months. Lanterns is definitely a triumph of talent, risk taking and
proficiency. (I hope that makes you want to check out this exceptional material).
